Comprehensive DBT

DIALECTICAL BEHAVIOR THERAPY

Guilford Counseling, PLLC is known for our specialization in DBT (dialectical behavior therapy), because we are currently the only INTENSIVELY TRAINED AND CERTIFIED DBT TEAM in the Triad…and we are VERY proud of that!

As the founder, I (Jennifer Cobb) was working through my first couple of years with Guilford Counseling, PLLC, and I became really aware of a pattern…there were many folks who were coming in with stories about how they had been “fired,” “dismissed from treatment,” invalidated, misunderstood, misdiagnosed…the list could go on. At first, I was hesitant to believe it. But then, after hearing story after story, from person after person, I began to do my own research. What I found was disheartening…what I found what that there was an entire “population” of folks who had the potential to be mistreated (almost definitely unintentionally) by their providers. Providers, who certainly believed that they were doing the right thing in regard to therapeutic treatment, were actually doing more harm than good.

I became sad, then I became angry, then I took action. I had already done the research to know (and had been practicing DBT-informed techniques) which treatment was the gold-star standard. I enrolled in a 2-year Intensive training with Dr. Marsha Linehan’s Behavioral Tech and flew to Seattle.

Fast-forward several years, and I’ve now built a DBT team here in the Triad that is just as passionate about serving these folks who end up (usually) being very misunderstood…and end up suffering a lot as a result.   It is for that reason, and more, that we are so committed to helping you get the treatment that you deserve, and supporting you every step of the way.
